Fourth Annual Northwest Cannabis and Psychedelics Law Institute

Omar Figueroa will participate in a panel at the Fourth Annual Northwest Cannabis and Psychedelics Law Institute on Friday, September 23, 2022, from 4-5:30 p.m. The panel is entitled “Failures of Legalization” and offers 1.5 general CLE credits in Oregon.
This panel will discuss the ongoing issues of cannabis prohibition in California, New York, and internationally despite the creation and development of the commercial cannabis marketplaces in these areas. Omar Figueroa will discuss ongoing issues in California’s market, including problems posed by California’s local opt-out regulations; New York state’s approach to implementing a commercial cannabis marketplace; and outstanding issues related to social
equity that persist. Richard Clabaugh will present a short history of cannabis prohibition in Germany, German medical cannabis law and its implications for an adult-use market, and the legislative process and status of the legalization and draft legislation. He will conclude by presenting the current status of Novel Foods applications before the European Food Safety Administration and possibility for the sale of CBD and other cannabinoids, in food and drink in Germany and Europe.
